But the more important conversation usually happens next: how secure is this lock, and who else might still have a key?
After moving into a new home, we recommend at minimum rekeying every exterior lock. Previous owners, real estate agents, contractors, cleaners, and former tenants may have copies of your existing keys. Rekeying changes the internal pin configuration so old keys stop working — your hardware stays, but access resets. If locks are worn or outdated, full replacement with higher-security hardware is often a better call.
